When the voice of Cheb Akil returns to embrace memory, absence becomes nothing more than another form of presence…
On June 13, 2026, the Algiers Opera House Boualem Bessaih will host an exceptional tribute evening honoring one of the sincerest and most iconic voices of Algerian Raï music: the late Cheb Akil.
Known for his timeless hits “Mezal Mezal” and “El Ichk El Mamnou”, two songs that crossed Algerian borders and were reinterpreted by many artists across the Arab world, Cheb Akil’s emotion continues to echo through generations of musical memory.
An evening where the songs that touched millions of hearts will come back to life, celebrating an artist who turned emotion into an art form and simplicity into a path to people’s hearts, becoming one of the greatest ambassadors of Algerian Raï music worldwide, before the genre was recently recognized by UNESCO as part of Algeria’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
On stage, artists who shared moments of music and life with him will reunite in tribute, featuring:
Bilal Sghir, Amine Babylone, Chams Freeklane, Akil Sghir, Cheb Hamidou, Cheba Siham and Chazil, accompanied by the Variety Orchestra conducted by maestro Amine Dahane.
The evening will also be marked by the presence of the late artist’s two daughters, alongside family members and friends, in a deeply emotional moment celebrating the memory of an artist whose voice remains alive despite his absence.
This event will not merely be a concert, but a night of loyalty, memory, and nostalgia… telling the story of an artist who left too soon, yet whose songs still awaken emotions from the very first notes.
