The South Czech Philharmonic, based in České Budějovice (Budweis), was founded in 1981; its original name was the South Bohemian State Orchestra. It currently consists of 45 musicians and remains the only professional philharmonic orchestra in the South Bohemian region.
In addition to performing works by classical composers and pieces suited for chamber orchestras and smaller concert halls, the Philharmonic shows a growing interest in contemporary scores. This involves bridging different genres and exploring new experiences, both in performance and in the variety of works presented to the public.
