Originally from Puebla, Mexico, soprano Rebeca Olvera has established herself as one of the most agile voices on the current opera scene. Trained at the National Conservatory of Mexico and further refined at SIVAM, her career took flight at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in La Fille du Régiment. Her destiny changed when she joined the Zurich Opera House: under the guidance of tenor Francisco Araiza, she joined the resident company in 2007 and has remained at its heights ever since.
A winner of the Belvedere Competition and named “Distinguished Citizen” of her hometown, she continues to shine brightly on major international stages across Europe, the United States, Mexico, and Algeria. This season, the soprano explores new horizons with her debut in the role of Oscar (Un ballo in maschera) in Zurich, a production she will take to the prestigious Edinburgh International Festival next August.
