Considered one of Europe’s most promising string quartets, the Gerhard Quartet is distinguished by its extraordinary sound sensitivity and a deep respect for music, which it regards as one of the greatest human values. The quartet draws its primary influences from Basel (Rainer Schmidt) and Berlin (Eberhard Feltz). Its profound commitment to contemporary music has led it to premiere works at the CNDM cycle in Madrid (Spain), the Nuit de la Création in Aix-en-Provence (France), and the Arnold Schoenberg Center in Vienna (Austria).
Their discography includes the album Portrait (Seed Music, 2016), winner of the Critics’ Award for Best CD of 2016, as well as an album released with the French label Klarthe (Ad Astra) featuring works by Debussy and Humet. Upcoming projects include the release of a new opus featuring works by Bach, Shostakovich, and Tchaikovsky, as well as a concert series presenting George Enescu’s complete chamber works with pianist Josu de Solaun. The Quartet consists of Lluís Castán Cochs (violin), Judit Bardolet Vilaró (violin), Miquel Jordà Saún (viola), and Jesús Miralles Roger (cello).
