As part of its efforts to promote national cultural heritage and celebrate one of the most symbolic milestones in the collective memory of Algerians, the Algiers Opera House Boualem Bessaïh will host, on January 12, 2026, a major artistic celebration marking the Amazigh New Year 2976 (Yennayer), under the theme:
“Yennayer… Colors of Identity and Melodies of Memory”, a festive artistic performance reflecting the depth of Amazigh history and the richness of its diverse cultural expressions.
The event will bring together various Amazigh musical styles, including Kabyle, Chaoui, Mozabite, as well as expressions of Saharan Amazigh heritage, in a cohesive artistic tableau embodying national unity in diversity. The performance will take place within a scenography inspired by authentic Amazigh symbols and motifs, enhancing the visual and aesthetic dimension of the show.
The evening will feature performances by Ines Hassaïm, star of the latest edition of the television program Alhane Wa Chabab, representing the Kabyle style; Abdelhamid Belbeche in the Chaoui style; Abi Ismail in the Mozabite style; and the Ahellil troupe, bearers of the authentic Amazigh musical heritage of the Gourara region in southwestern Algeria, inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The program will also include choreographic pieces performed by the Ballet of the Algiers Opera House, featuring creations inspired by Kabyle cultural heritage, blending movement and music in a refined artistic expression that reflects the vitality of Amazigh culture and its capacity for renewal.
