“Ṭāba al-Maqām”: Constantinois Malouf Echoes Through the Heart of Algiers Opera
On Thursday, June 26, 2025, the audience of the Algiers Opera House “Boualem Bessaïh” was treated to a truly exceptional evening — a moment steeped in authenticity, emotion, and cultural memory, where refined music and ancestral heritage came alive.
The acclaimed artist Abbas Righi, ambassador of Constantinois Malouf and one of its most iconic contemporary figures, took to the stage to present his show “Ṭāba al-Maqām” with elegant artistry and heartfelt sincerity.
Performing a repertoire rooted in centuries of tradition, he captivated a packed audience — composed mostly of families and devoted music lovers — who joined him in singing titles deeply etched in Algerian collective memory:
- “Yā Muslimīn Ṭāba al-Maqām, Ṣallū ‘Alā Khayr al-Anām”
- “Your Love Taught Me to Lament”
- “You Tormented My Heart”
Between each song, the audience responded with overwhelming applause and heartfelt emotion, reaffirming their deep connection to the Andalusian legacy of the East Algerian region — with Constantine as its beating heart and cultural capital.
At the end of the concert, Mr. Abdelkader Bouazzara, Director General of the Algiers Opera House, paid tribute to the artist with a special award, honoring his distinguished career, the nobility of his musical craft, and his commitment to preserving Algeria’s rich musical heritage.
