Great causes require noble ideas, and majestic landmarks deserve names worthy of their grandeur.”
The past years bear witness that youth and culture have always been central to our concerns. A vibrant and beautiful youth, in full motion, whom we have supported and reassured — so they may reconnect with their memory, reconcile with their history, and embrace a new role: to heal the wounds of a dark period that must never return.
Culture, in all its forms, is a remedy in which we deeply believe — a balm for the soul and a voice for the heart. The Algiers Opera, a generous gift from our Chinese brothers, stands as a testament to their generosity and the trust we placed in them when building a modern state.
Such a monument could only bear the name of one of the greats: Boualem Bessaïh, a freedom fighter, statesman, and cultured man whose legacy will shine eternally.
He was a companion in the struggle, a voice of wisdom and thought, a lover of literature, art, and poetry. He inspired his generation and infused revolutionary spirit into the generations that followed.
Today, more than ever, he remains a symbol of loyalty to one’s word. All who step into the Algiers Opera will remember this great patriot and noble man: Boualem Bessaïh.
