About

A Place of Memory and Thought

Great causes require noble ideas, and majestic landmarks deserve names worthy of their grandeur.”

The past years bear witness that youth and culture have always been central to our concerns. A vibrant and beautiful youth, in full motion, whom we have supported and reassured — so they may reconnect with their memory, reconcile with their history, and embrace a new role: to heal the wounds of a dark period that must never return.

Culture, in all its forms, is a remedy in which we deeply believe — a balm for the soul and a voice for the heart. The Algiers Opera, a generous gift from our Chinese brothers, stands as a testament to their generosity and the trust we placed in them when building a modern state.

Such a monument could only bear the name of one of the greats: Boualem Bessaïh, a freedom fighter, statesman, and cultured man whose legacy will shine eternally.

He was a companion in the struggle, a voice of wisdom and thought, a lover of literature, art, and poetry. He inspired his generation and infused revolutionary spirit into the generations that followed.

Today, more than ever, he remains a symbol of loyalty to one’s word. All who step into the Algiers Opera will remember this great patriot and noble man: Boualem Bessaïh.

Missions

The Missions of the Algiers Opera

The construction of this major cultural landmark  offers  a unique opportunity to establish a true center of excellence and artistic outreach through the creation of the Algiers Opera.

This center is a key structural tool for implementing national policy in the fields of lyrical singing, choreographic dance, and music.

Our vision for this institution is based on several pillars:

  • A temple that reconciles us with ourselves, with our cultural history, our depth, and the stratigraphy of our identity, while at the same time projecting us onto the stage of nations.”
  • A lyrical and musical institution fully managed with a public service mindset.
  • A crucible of artistic creation rooted in Algeria’s rich heritage, nurturing talent through effective training programs (in music, choreography, conducting, vocal arts…).
  • A distinctive cultural hub where creativity and excellence converge.
